Pfizer Inc. has entered into a settlement with the manufacturer of Doxycycline Hyclate, the generic name of the medication.
Pfizer, the manufacturer of Doxycycline Hyclate, has agreed to pay a $750 million criminal fine, the Federal Justice Department said.
The settlement is expected to last for up to 12 months, the company said in a statement.
The settlement covers Pfizer’s $600 million settlement with CVS Health and the manufacturer of the generic name of Doxycycline Hyclate. Pfizer also agreed to pay a $2.5 million criminal fine.
Pfizer also agreed to pay $250 million to the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York for the violation of federal law, the company said.
Under the agreement, Pfizer will pay Doxycycline Hyclate, which contains the generic name of the medication, up to a maximum of $600 per bottle. The maximum fine is $750. Pfizer will also pay a $1 million criminal fine, the company said.
The settlement is the latest in a string of settlements involving manufacturers of a generic version of the drug. Last month, the U. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles announced that Pfizer had entered into a settlement with CVS for failing to properly warn consumers about the risks of the antibiotic.
The agreement was announced by U. Attorney Julie Brodsky and New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.
The agreement will be enforceable by Pfizer through the United States Department of Justice.
